The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has expanded the digital services available on the RajmargYatra mobile application by introducing a digital Local Pass facility and the MargMitra Help Centre, aimed at making travel on National Highways more convenient and improving citizen-centric digital services.
According to agency rpeorts, the initiatives have been launched in line with the Government of India's Digital India vision to enhance ease of living through technology-driven public services. The newly launched Local Pass feature allows eligible commuters to purchase monthly toll passes digitally through the RajmargYatra app without visiting a toll plaza. The facility has been introduced initially at the Mundka-Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) in Delhi and will be extended to other toll plazas across the country in phases.Under the system, residents living within a 20-kilometre radius of an eligible toll plaza can buy a Local Pass through the app, enabling unlimited travel through the designated toll plaza for one month.
Earlier, commuters had to visit toll plazas and submit documents to prove their eligibility. The entire process has now been digitised and can be completed within minutes using the mobile application. The digital Local Pass system uses consent-based integration with government platforms such as DigiLocker and VAHAN to automatically retrieve verified details related to a commuter's address, vehicle registration and linked FASTag. Eligibility is further verified through GIS-based validation, eliminating manual documentation while improving transparency, accuracy and user convenience.

NHAI has also launched the MargMitra Help Centre, an intelligent digital assistance platform integrated into the RajmargYatra app that serves as a single-window support system for National Highway users. The platform enables commuters to seek information, access services and register grievances through a conversational interface that supports text and voice queries in all 22 scheduled Indian languages. Based on the user's query, the system provides relevant information or directs them to the appropriate service.
MargMitra offers instant assistance on services such as FASTag recharge, KYC requirements, refund status, Annual Pass and Local Pass services, along with answers to other frequently asked questions. For issues requiring official intervention, users can directly lodge complaints through the platform, which automatically routes them to the concerned department for timely resolution. Commuters can also track the status of their grievances in real time and file appeals if they are not satisfied with the response. In addition, the Help Centre allows users to check the blacklisting status of their FASTag, view pending electronic notices and report road safety issues such as stalled vehicles or encroachments on National Highways.
According to NHAI, the latest initiatives build on the success of the RajmargYatra app's Annual Pass facility, through which more than 80 lakh Annual Passes have already been issued with real-time activation. The authority has urged National Highway users to download the RajmargYatra mobile application on Android and iOS platforms to access the expanding range of digital services, stating that the new features reflect its continued efforts to modernise both highway infrastructure and the digital travel experience through transparent, efficient and citizen-focused services.
