Nepal:PM Prachanda wins confidence vote

Nepal's newly-appointed Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' on Tuesday won the vote of confidence in the House of Representatives. The 68-year-old CPN-Maoist Centre leader was sworn in as the Prime Minister for the third time on December 26 last year after he dramatically walked out of the pre-poll alliance led by the Nepali Congress and joined hands with opposition leader K P Sharma Oli.Out of the 270 members in the House of Representatives (HoR) present during the voting, 268 voted in favour of Prime Minister Prachanda, while 2 voted against him.

According to information, PM Dahal got 268  votes – exceeding the 136 required – with two votes against him. Political parties, including Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Maoist Center, Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Janamat Party, Nagarik Unmukti Party, Unified Socialist, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, Aam Janata Party and two independent candidates gave the vote of confidence to Prime Minister Dahal. Dahal expressed his confidence to ensure good governance, cooperation and mutual trust during his tenure. PM Dahal clarified that he wanted to take forward the politics of consensus, cooperation and mutual trust rather than the politics of negation, disrespect and vengeance as the Prime Minister. He vowed to promote the rule of law by totally discouraging the practice of gaining unfair advantages on the basis of access and connection.
