Navy Chief Swaminathan meets Mauritius PM, discusses maritime ties

Indian Navy Chief Admiral Krishna Swaminathan on Wednesday called on Mauritian Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam and discussed ways to strengthen maritime security cooperation between the two countries.According to agency reports,Admiral Swaminathan is on a four-day official visit to Mauritius that began on August 10 to further strengthen bilateral maritime engagement with the strategically important Indian Ocean nation.
According to available information, discussions during the meeting focused on strengthening maritime security cooperation, training exchanges, information-sharing mechanisms, capacity-building efforts and operational linkages between the Indian Navy and the Mauritius National Coast Guard.During the meeting, Admiral Swaminathan assured the Mauritian Prime Minister of the Indian Navy's full support, assistance, cooperation and collaboration in the capability enhancement and capacity-building efforts of the Mauritius Police Force and the National Coast Guard.
Earlier, Admiral Swaminathan met Rampersad Sooroojebally, Commissioner of Police of the Mauritius Police Force; Kan Oye Fong Weng-Poorun, Secretary for Home and Defence Affairs in the Government of Mauritius; and Anurag Srivastava, High Commissioner of India to Mauritius."Discussions were centred on strengthening #maritimesecurity cooperation, capacity building of the Mauritius National Coast Guard, joint EEZ surveillance and expanding operational linkages between the two maritime forces. India and Mauritius share an enduring maritime partnership, anchored in mutual trust and a shared commitment to ensuring a secure and stable #IndianOceanRegion – in line with the vision of MAHASAGAR. 
India and Mauritius share a long-standing maritime partnership, with the Indian Navy and the Mauritius National Coast Guard regularly engaging through training exchanges, joint surveillance of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), port visits and hydrographic surveys.Mauritius has also participated in several Indian naval initiatives, including the MILAN multilateral naval exercise, the International Fleet Review and the Goa Maritime Conclave, reflecting New Delhi's vision of MAHASAGAR.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the MAHASAGAR initiative — Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions — during his visit to Mauritius in March last year as a framework for India's engagement with the Global South.
