MP bypolls: BJP retains strength,Congress down

In Madhya Pradesh assembly by-election Congress failed to perform better, Out of 28 seats ruling BjP won 19 seats while Congress could win only 9 seats. Results were declared Tuesday late night. By winning 19 seats the Shivraj Singh Chouhan  government is now firm on drivers' seat. In the 2018 assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, the people gave a mandate against the BJP, but in the by-elections of 28 assembly seats held in 2020, almost two years later, voters have once again reposed faith in the BJP government's seven months of functioning. The Jyotiraditya Scindia factor also affected the changed political scenario in the state.
In his reaction, CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan  has said that  the people of Madhya Pradesh and I have a relationship of affinity, love and affection. A buoyed  Chouhan said the outcome proves that voters supported the decision taken by the Congress MLAs to pull down the previous Kamal Nath dispensation.
MP Congress president and former CM Kamal Nath accepted the defeat and said the party made efforts to reach out to people."We accept the mandate. We made every effort to reach out to voters. I also thank all voters who participated in the by-elections," Nath said in a tweet.
Jyotiraditya Scindia, who switched from congress to BJP, congratulated the winners .he tweeted, "Hearty congratulations to all the candidates of the Bharatiya Janata Party who won the MP Assembly by-elections. At the same time, heartfelt gratitude to all the devout voters. I am confident that all the winning candidates will always be ready for public service and proper development of your constituency."
Political observers have said that in most of the seats in the state, there was a direct contest between the  BJP and Congress candidates.  However, two or three seats in the Gwalior-Chambal region along with  Bada Malehra seat of Bundelkhand region have a triangular contest due to the BSP.  There are a total of 230 assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh.  BJP  had  reached majority figure (126 seats).  At the same time, the Congress needed to win all  28 seats to return to power but (they got only 9.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan over the phone on BJP's victory in the by-election.PM Narendra Modi tweeted : "Powered by the progressive agenda of the Government under ChouhanShivraj and the hardwork of BJP, M.P. ; our Party has emerged as the unparalleled choice of the people. I thank the people of MP for blessing BJP in the by-polls held across the state. Their affection is invaluable."
