MIB to consider allowing govt ads in Digital Media

The Centre is considering extending benefits enjoyed by traditional media to digital media platforms. In an official statement, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said that it is considering allowing placement of government advertisements in digital media platforms that upload or stream current affairs and news. The ministry has given the digital media industry clearance to set up a self-regulatory body for ‘furthering their interests and interaction with the government’.“Similar to self-regulating bodies in print and electronic media, entities in digital media can form self-regulating bodies for furthering their interests and interaction with the government,” the ministry’s statement said.

According to the stattement, issued on Friday, says  the ministry is also considering extending the facility of PIB accreditations to reporters, cameramen and videographers working in digital media. A PIB accreditation gives media persons first-hand information and access to official press conferences and other such interactions.Persons with PIB accreditation can also avail CGHS benefits and concessional rail fare as per the extant procedure.
