Guterres calls for global unity, peace ahead of ‘last UNGA’ as S.G.

United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Sunday urged world leaders to come together for peace, dignity, justice and humanity as they prepare to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York for his final session as Secretary-General. In a video message on social media post Guterres said international cooperation, dialogue and collective action were essential to addressing global challenges. Guterres said, this is his last UNGA as Secretary-General and said international dialogue, cooperation and collective action is now needed more than ever.

The 81st UNGA session from 22 to 28 of this month, brings together leaders from all 193 member states to discuss global challenges and advance cooperation, Sustainable Development Goals and collective action for peace and equality. His remarks come as the UN General Assembly is set to bring together leaders from across the world for discussions on pressing global challenges, with Guterres urging renewed emphasis on dialogue, cooperation and collective action.
