Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi urges youth to fight drug abuse

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called for a drug-free India, saying protecting the country’s youth from addiction is essential to achieving the goal of a developed India, or ‘Viksit Bharat’.Addressing the nation through the 137th episode of his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Modi highlighted the government’s ‘Nasha-Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’ campaign and said a large number of people, particularly young citizens, are joining the movement.
The Prime Minister said the government’s objective was clear — to ensure a drug-free youth and, ultimately, a drug-free India. He stressed that drug addiction does not affect individuals alone but can damage entire families and society.

Modi also appealed to content creators to use their creativity to spread awareness about the dangers of narcotics. He urged them to develop slogans, songs, short plays and other engaging content in different Indian languages to connect with young audiences and highlight both the consequences of addiction and the path to recovery.“I would like to commend those who raise awareness against drugs and step forward to help individuals struggling with addiction,” Modi said, while encouraging more people to contribute to the campaign.
August Brings Stronger Spirit of Patriotism
The Prime Minister also reflected on the strong sense of patriotism associated with August, pointing to occasions such as National Handloom Day, Independence Day and National Space Day, as well as anniversaries linked to the Quit India Movement and Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.He said these occasions collectively strengthen the spirit of love for the nation among citizens.
Modi highlighted the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign as an important initiative that has further deepened this sentiment. He said this year was particularly significant as it marked the 150th anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram’. The celebration of the national song, he noted, extended beyond India through the ‘Suryapath Tiranga’ initiative, under which the Tricolour embarked on a unique journey across the globe.Modi also highlighted the PM SVANidhi Yojana, saying it has helped 35 lakh women expand their businesses and strengthen their families’ economic future. He also praised the ‘Clean-up Patwai’ initiative in Uttar Pradesh, where young volunteers cleaned ponds and public spaces, and urged citizens to remain committed to cleanliness.Highlighting efforts during the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, Modi said thousands of sanitation workers served pilgrims while horse and mule dung was converted into biogas to light the ‘Swachh Jyot’. He said such community-led initiatives and innovations demonstrate how collective action can contribute to a cleaner and stronger India
