The BJP-led Mahayuti scored a big victory in Maharashtra, with a massive edge on most of the 29 municipal corporations, including Mumbai, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Kalyan-Dombivali, Nashik, Thane and Navi Mumbai. The State Election Commission has declared results for 11 Municipal Corporations in which Mahayuti alliance has gained majority in Navi Mumbai, Ulhasnagar, Panvel, Malegaon, Dhule, Jalgaon, Ahilyanagar, Kolhapur and Jalna.
Breaching the bastion of the Thackeray family, the alliance of the BJP and Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena on Friday secured a clear majority in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections by bagging 118 out of 227 seats. The BJP won 89 seats, while the Shinde-led Sena secured 29. The alliance thus crossed the halfway mark of 114 needed to control the country's richest civic body.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the results of the Maharashtra civic polls reflect a strengthening bond between the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the people of the state, adding that the mandate would lend fresh momentum to development and celebrate Maharashtra’s rich cultural legacy. Praising party workers, he added, “I am very proud of every NDA karyakarta who worked tirelessly among the people across Maharashtra. They spoke about our alliance’s track record, highlighted our vision for the future, and effectively countered the Opposition’s falsehoods. My best wishes to them.”
Reacting to the results, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance’s emphatic victory underscored the people’s faith in the NDA’s development-oriented policies. “The resounding victory of the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance in the Maharashtra municipal corporation elections clearly shows that the people across every corner of the country have complete faith only in the development policies of the NDA led by PM Narendra Modi ji,” said Shah.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed happiness with the results, and praised PM Narendra Modi. “I am very happy that the Bharatiya Janata Party has achieved an unprecedented victory in Maharashtra. The Bharatiya Janata Party and our alliance partners have secured a clear majority in about 25 of the 29 places, including Mumbai,” Fadnavis said.
