Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray has said that the state government will implement a proper flood management system to prevent such monsoon incidents from happening in the future. Addressing a press conference in Chiplun on Sunday, he said that rain, floods, water are not new to the people in this area but what happened this time was unimaginable. They could not even save their belongings due to the rapid rise of water." He further said that after a comprehensive review of the flood situation in the state, the compensation will be announced along with what and how much help can be sought from the Centre.

Thackeray visited Chiplun city in Ratnagiri district which has seen considerable damage. For two days, the main market remained flooded in 10 to 12 feet-high water. Chief Minister Thackeray said a financial review of the flood damage in Maharashtra will be carried out over the next couple of days. In the meantime, the district collectors have been asked to immediately provide food, medicines, clothes and other necessities to the flood victims, he said.
