LFR vans to catch serious criminals, UK to reveal nationality of suspects

The UK government has taken two important decisions to arrest the crime, criminals and misinformation. As per information, a greater number of Live Facial Recognition (LFR) vans will begin circulating around town and city centres around the UK to locate suspects of serious crimes, the British government announced on Wednesday. As part of a Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee, the Home Office said every neighbourhood across England and Wales has been deployed with named, contactable officers to tackle crimes. In addition to this bolstering of police presence, it has also rolled out 10 new LFR vans to seven police forces across the country to equip officers with “targeted, cutting-edge technology to catch high-harm criminals”.

New official guidance issued on Wednesday will require police forces across the UK to reveal the ethnicity and nationality of suspects charged with a crime as part of a drive to counter misinformation spread through online channels. The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) and the College of Policing said they have developed the update especially for high-profile and sensitive investigations and operations, with officers “encouraged” to disclose the additional information when there is a “policing purpose to do so”.

The purpose highlighted by the law enforcement bodies includes reducing the risk to public safety where there are “high levels of mis or disinformation about a particular incident, or in cases of significant public interest”.
