Kicked 275,000 aliens out of US social security system: Trump

President Donald Trump on Thursday commemorated the 90th anniversary of Social Security with a proclamation from the Oval Office, unveiling what he called the programme’s “most significant reforms in decades.” Trump said his administration has removed about 275,000 illegal immigrants from Social Security rolls and deleted 2.4 million outdated records, some over a century old. The most striking announcement was the end of federal taxation on Social Security income for the majority of senior beneficiaries. The White House said the measure, now law as part of the “One Big Beautiful Bill”, delivers on Trump’s campaign pledge to protect retirement income. “The vast majority of seniors will no longer pay taxes on that income,” the administration said, framing the change as both an economic boost and a recognition of lifelong contributions by retirees.

According to the Social Security Administration, call handling capacity has surged by 70% over last year, while average wait times have dropped from half an hour to six minutes. Automation now manages most helpline requests, easing pressure on human staff and speeding up service. In-person visits have also improved, with field office waits reduced by nearly a quarter and appointment availability expanding fivefold.
