Amid the ongoing probe in connection with the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land allotment case involving Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the authority's chairperson K Marigowda resigned on Wednesday, citing health concerns.Gowda was a long-time associate of the Chief Minister and worked with him since 1983; he was made President of the Mysuru Taluk Panchayat in 1995, Vice President of the Zilla Panchayat in 2000, and promoted to the top post eight years later.Previously Marigowda was hospitalised in Bengaluru following health issues involving exhaustion and significant distress. Later, as per reports, he was transferred to Mysuru for specialised treatment.
The FIR registered by the Mysuru-located Lokayukta police establishment on September 27 included the names of Siddaramaiah, his wife B M Parvathi, brother-in-law Mallikarjuna Swamy and Devaraju, from whom Swamy had purchased land and gifted it to Parvathi, and others.BN Parvathi had written to MUDA saying she had planned to give up the land earlier but was advised against it as the allegations against her husband are "politically motivated". Siddaramaiah has repeatedly denied the charges and asserted that he is being targeted politically. He has also proclaimed that he will not resign with the support of his party leaders, despite repeated calls from the BJP for him to step down from his post at the head of the government.
