The Karnataka government have revised sales tax on Saturday.According to a gazette notification, the government revised sales tax on petrol and diesel by 29.84% and 18.44% respectively. The decision by the Finance Department of Karnataka aims to generate additional revenue for the state.

The decision by Karnataka comes hours after the central government reduced windfall tax on domestically produced crude oil from Rs5,200 per tonne to Rs 3,250 per tonne.In March this year, the government had reduced petrol and diesel prices by Rs2 per litre. It was the first nationwide fuel price cut since May 2022. As per the Petroleum Dealers Association, petrol and diesel prices are likely to go up by Rs3 and Rs3.05 approximately in Karnataka.
