In Karnataka, the sitting JD(S) MP from Hassan, Prajwal Revanna was suspended from the party over explicit videos allegedly showing him sexually assaulting multiple women that went viral. Prajwal is also contesting from Hassan in this election. He is the grandson of JD(S) supremo and former Prime Minister Deve Gowda and son of Holenarasipur MLA H D Revanna.Based on a complaint by a victim, a police complaint is lodged against Prajwal Revanna and the state government has ordered a SIT probe into the allegations. Before the police complaint was lodged, Prajwal is said to have left for Germany on Saturday morning. The video clips, allegedly involving Prajwal Revanna, surfaced on social media a day after his constituency went to polls.
JD(S) leaders, including GT Devegowda and HD Kumaraswamy, questioned the timing of the scandal and the motives behind the release of the sex tapes just before the elections. They cast doubt on the authenticity of the allegations, and sought a thorough investigation to uncover the truth."This pen drive was released exactly five days before polling," pointed out GT Devegowda.Kumaraswamy charged, "A complaint was written by a woman from Bengaluru and then sent to Holenarsipura. Who is behind this? Complaint says those incidents happened five years ago. What have they been doing for the last five years? Why did these mahanayakas (great people) release the pen drive only during elections?"
The scandal involves hundreds of explicit videos that were allegedly shot by the Revanna - grandson of JDS chief and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda - and were circulated widely in the Hassan constituency. This was followed up by a woman filing a police case against Prajwal Revanna, accusing him of sexual assault. She alleged she had been sexually abused multiple times between 2019 and 2022.The complainant also claimed that Prajwal Revanna misbehaved with her daughter over a video call and had "vulgar conversations" with her.
BJP leader and union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar says, "We have zero tolerance towards any crime against women... Many questions arise on this incident. The JD(S) has already taken steps and suspended him. But, there are many questions. If the Karnataka government had this evidence with them for so many months, why were they not doing anything?.
