In Karnataka, Legislators in both Houses will now wear gold-coated metal badges depicting Gandaberunda while attending sessions. The badge, which carries the official emblem of the state, will also mark 50 years of renaming Karnataka.Starting from the legislature session at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi, MLAs, and MLCs are likely to flaunt the badges on the left of their shoulders. Legislators are also expected to wear them when they travel out of the state and country.The Belagavi session starts on December 4.
The Gandaberunda, is a two-headed mythological bird outside of the main Hindu mythology believed to possess immense magical strength. It is used as the official emblem of the Karnataka state government because of its symbol of strength, as it is thought to be capable of fighting the forces of destruction. It was also the royal insignia of the erstwhile Mysore kingdom.
