Karnataka council: Congress MLCs remove Dy Chairman from seat

Karnataka Legislative Council which met on Tuesday  witnessed acrimonious situation over the issue of resignation of chairman. BJP and JDS members demanded the resignation of council chairman Pratap Chandra Shetty of congress as he has lost the majority. Congress and BJP members argued to came to blows as congress members forcibly removed Deputy Chairman Dharmegowda of JDS from chairman's seat. In the entire history of council such an incident has never happened said senior most member JDS Basavaraj Horatti. The council's chairperson, K Prathapachandra Shetty of the Congress, later came and adjourned the session. Karnataka's ruling BJP wants Shetty removed as chairperson. The party had called for a no-confidence motion against Shetty, who had adjourned the house ahead of schedule last week,

Later a delegation of BJP and JDS met the Governor and cut lodged a complaint against congress unruly behaviour in vacating the chair.Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa condemned the attitude of congress members and requested Pratap Chandra Shetty to step down from the chair. As JDS has withdrawn support to congress and backing BJP in electing a new chairman.
