External Affairs Minister(EAM) S. Jaishankar on Wednesday met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Manila and reviewed key areas of the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership on the sidelines of the Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting (FMM) held alongside the ASEAN-related meetings.The discussions covered trade and tariffs, energy, defence and security, critical minerals and artificial intelligence, along with regional, global and multilateral issues of mutual interest.
Sharing details of the meeting on X, Jaishankar said he was pleased to meet Rubio and that the talks focused on priority areas of the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership."Our meeting focused on areas which are priority for the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, including trade & tariffs, energy, defence & security, critical minerals & artificial intelligence," Jaishankar said.He added that both sides also exchanged perspectives on regional, global and multilateral developments of mutual interest.

According to agency reports, the meeting took place as the Quad grouping of India, the United States, Australia and Japan reconvened its Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Manila on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meetings.
Rubio said the Quad reaffirmed its commitment to supporting ASEAN centrality and advancing a free and open Indo-Pacific.In a post on X, Rubio said the four countries emphasised that strong cooperation remains essential to supporting ASEAN's priorities and central role in the region. He added that the Quad partners share a common vision of an Indo-Pacific based on the rule of law, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and confirmed that the grouping would meet again later this year.

Jaishankar is on a two-day visit to Manila to participate in a series of Foreign Minister-level meetings under the ASEAN framework, including the ASEAN-India Foreign Ministers' Meeting, the East Asia Summit (EAS) Foreign Ministers' Meeting and the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the visit reflects India's continued engagement with ASEAN under the Act East Policy and its commitment to strengthening the ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting is expected to focus on regional security, maritime cooperation, emerging technologies and developments in the Indo-Pacific.Ahead of the Quad meeting, Jaishankar also held separate talks with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Philippines Foreign Secretary Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro.His meeting with Wong reviewed the outcomes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Australia and preparations for the Quad discussions.During talks with Lazaro, Jaishankar discussed expanding the India-Philippines Strategic Partnership, with a focus on trade and investment, education, defence and security, maritime cooperation, capacity building and development cooperation, besides exchanging views on recent developments in the Indo-Pacific.
