Israeli strikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, 31 killed

Lebanon has said that Israeli strikes targeting Hezbollah in the country’s south killed 31 people on Tuesday. In a statement, the health ministry says 31 people, including at least four children and three women, were killed in attacks and 40 wounded, without differentiating between civilians and combatants. Fourteen were killed in Burj al-Shamali near Tyre.
In another blow to Hamas, its newly appointed military chief Mohammed Odeh was killed in an Israeli Defence Forces strike in Gaza City Tuesday evening, according to Hebrew media reports. An Israeli source confirms to the Kan public broadcaster that Odeh was killed in the strike. Hamas has not yet commented on the targeting of Odeh, and there is no immediate official Israeli confirmation of the Hebrew media reports.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz earlier announced that Israel had carried out a strike targeting Hamas’s new military chief, following the killing earlier this month of his predecessor, Izz al-Din al-Haddad. US President Donald Trump held a phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Axios reported citing an informed source.

Meanwhile, Bahrain foreign minister said on Tuesday Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz disrupted global energy markets and trade, and caused significant economic losses, while prompting emergency measures in several countries to protect consumers. Speaking at the UN Security Council, Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani called on Iran to comply with its international obligations and the principles of good neighborliness, adding the need to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and other international waterways, and to end support for proxy groups and destabilizing activities.
