Israel has carried out air strikes on targets belonging to the Palestinian militant group Hamas in southern Lebanon and Gaza Strip. Israeli military said the attacks were a response to a dozens of rockets fired from Lebanon into northern part of the country. The barrage of rockets in Lebanon was the largest since a 2006 war between the two countries. Militants in Gaza fired dozens more rockets after the strikes began. According to Israeli officials, two Israeli sisters were killed in a shooting attack near a settlement in the occupied West Bank hours after the Israeli strikes. An Italian tourist was killed and seven others were hurt in a terror attack on a promenade in Tel Aviv on Friday night, police said. According to law enforcement officials, the alleged terrorist carried out a car-ramming attack and appeared to try to access a weapon to open fire on Kaufmann Street, leaving a trail of carnage along several hundred meters and into the adjacent Charles Clore Park, a popular seaside promenade. Surveillance camera footage showed the attacker’s vehicle speeding toward pedestrians walking near the park, before overturning.

The US State Department issued a condemnation of the Tel Aviv attack with Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel saying that the US “stands with the government and people of Israel.” Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed her solidarity with Israel following the “cowardly attack” in Tel Aviv in which seven other people were injured, including other tourists. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered an immediate call-up on Friday of Border Police reserves officers, in a major step that likely reflects fears of a further escalation. The Israel Police said in a statement that four Border Police reserves units will be mobilized starting on Sunday, following orders from the Defense Ministery and the National Security Ministry. Authorities increased its police preparedness ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, usually a period of high tensions between Palestinians and Israeli security forces. This year, Ramadan coincides with Passover and Easter. Passover began on Wednesday evening.
