The United States' response to Iran's seven conditions for reopening the strategic Strait of Hormuz was "insufficient," Iran's security chief, Mohsen Rezaee, told state media on Sunday.Iran presented a proposal during the UN General Assembly under which the Strait of Hormuz waterway could be reopened and normal maritime passage restored within seven days if the conditions were met, to which the US later replied via Qatari intermediaries."We presented seven conditions to the Americans and clearly stated that the Strait of Hormuz would not be opened to them, and no negotiations would take place, until these conditions are met," Rezaei said. He added that Iran was "no longer in the process of responding to the Americans". "In their response, they have accepted some of our conditions, while others remain unclear," he said.
Washington needs to clarify the issues that remain unclear to Tehran, Rezaee, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, said, adding, "We presented seven conditions to the Americans and clearly stated that the Strait of Hormuz would not be opened to them, and no negotiations would take place, until these conditions are met.Rezaee said Iran is "no longer in the process of responding to the Americans."
Meanwhile, the IRGC Navy said a tanker carrying 750,000 barrels of crude oil struck a naval mine and caught fire Sunday, making it the third tanker to strike a mine in the Strait of Hormuz that day, the IRGC-affiliated Tasnim news agency reported. “A shuttle tanker attempted to pass through an unauthorized route this afternoon, disregarding warnings and alerts from the IRGC Navy, when it struck a naval mine and suffered an explosion and severe fire,” the IRGC Navy said, according to the report.
