Iran protests spread nationwide, Govt building set ablaze

Anti-government protests in Iran continued into Friday morning after calls for demonstrations the exiled crown prince, despite authorities cutting internet and international phone services. Prince Reza Pahlavi praised the nationwide turnout on Thursday night, after millions took the streets across the country, and urged more Iranians to join coordinated protests at 8 p.m. on Friday.Videos shared online before communications were shut showed crowds chanting slogans including "Death to the dictator" and "Death to the Islamic Republic" in Tehran and other cities, with fires burning in the streets. Protests enter 12th day, spreading to all 31 provinces.Govt. buildings, police stations set on fire in Tehran, Shiraz, Mashhad.

US President Donald Trump warned Iran’s authorities against killing demonstratorswhile praising Iranians as “brave people” amid nationwide protests on Thursday. Asked if Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has a Plan B to go to Russia amid nationwide protests, US President Donald Trump told Fox News “he’s looking to go some place.”

European officials, meanwhile, voiced their support for the demonstrators in new remarks on Thursday.Germany's Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said he condemns "the excessive use of violence against peaceful demonstrators and calls on the Iranian authorities to adhere to their international obligations." European Parliament President Roberta Metsola also expressed solidarity with the protesters.

The Norway-based Iran Human Rights NGO reported that 45 demonstrators have now been killed by Iranian security forces since the unrest began in late December. Another report by the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) said more than 2,200 people have been arrested.
