Iran on Friday issued a list of eight key bridges across the Gulf region and Jordan, signalling possible targets for retaliation after US forces carried out strikes on the B1 Bridge in Karaj, Alborz Province, widely described as one of Iran’s tallest bridges, causing significant destruction and leaving eight dead and 95 injured on Thursday. The B1 bridge had been expected to open to traffic later this year. The list was published by Fars News Agency, a semi-official outlet closely associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The bridges identified as part of the “hit-list” include the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Bridge in Kuwait, the King Fahd Causeway connecting Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, the Sheikh Zayed Bridge and Al Maqta Bridge in the UAE, along with the King Hussein Bridge, Damia Bridge, Sheikh Khalifa Bridge, and Abdoun Bridge in Jordan.

US President Trump announced the strike, announcing that Iran’s tallest bridge had been hit —just hours after warning he could bomb the Islamic Republic “back to stone ages.” Trump has warned that Washington “hasn’t even started destroying what’s left in Iran”, threatening a potential expansion of attacks on the country’s infrastructure, which would violate international law. Posting on social media late on Thursday, Trump threatened to attack “Bridges next, then Electric Power Plants”, adding that Iran’s leadership “knows what has to be done, and has to be done, FAST!”
