The fifth Test match between India and England has been cancelled, The match was scheduled to begin from Friday. England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed on Friday. According to information, the BCCI and ECB mutually decided that this is the best way forward given the Covid-19 scare that has gripped the tournament. There was uncertainty regarding the fifth and final Test match after another member of Team India's support staff tested positive for Covid on Thursday. But all Indian players had returned negative RT-PCR results and it was expected that the match will be held as per the schedule but it wasn't to be. Due to fears of a further increase in the number of COVID cases inside the camp, India are regrettably unable to field a team, a statement read.
Following ongoing conversations with the BCCI, the ECB can confirm that the fifth LV= Insurance Test at Emirates Old Trafford, due to start today, will be cancelled.

The series currently stands at 2-1 in favour of India; however; the calling off of the final Test means that either India will have to forfeit the series or complete it next year, something that is yet to be confirmed.
