India, Vietnam reaffirm commitment to regional stability and peace

India and Vietnam on Thursday reiterated their commitment to maintaining regional stability and peace, as senior military officials from both countries discussed measures to expand defence cooperation and strengthen military-to-military engagement.
According to agency reports,Chief of Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth met Lieutenant General Le Van Huong, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, who is currently on an official visit to India.As part of his visit, Lieutenant General Huong paid homage to India’s fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial in New Delhi. He was also accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour at South Block.

Lieutenant General Huong was later received by General Dhiraj Seth, following which the two military leaders held detailed discussions on further enhancing bilateral defence cooperation and military-to-military ties.According to the Indian Army, the talks underlined the shared resolve of the two armies to contribute towards regional stability and peace.
The latest military engagement follows high-level defence discussions between India and Vietnam held weeks ago, with both sides seeking to further expand bilateral defence cooperation under the Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.The discussions also covered regional and international security developments and issues of common interest.
During his official visit to Vietnam last month, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh held talks with General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Minister of National Defence.The meeting reviewed the progress of Vietnam-India defence cooperation, with a focus on enhancing collaboration between the two air forces, capacity building and professional exchanges.
The two sides also deliberated on regional and international security matters and reiterated their resolve to further deepen defence cooperation under the Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
