India slams Pakistan's airstrikes on Afghanistan

India has condemned Pakistan's airstrikes on Afghanistan as a “flagrant violation" of international law, saying it is “hypocritical” to invoke Islamic solidarity while carrying out attacks that have killed civilians during Ramzan. Addressing a Security Council meeting on the situation in Afghanistan on Monday, India's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni reiterated New Delhi's support for the UN Secretary-General's call for compliance with international law, including international humanitarian law, and for ensuring the protection of civilians.
"It is hypocritical to espouse high principles of international law and Islamic solidarity while mercilessly carrying out airstrikes during the holy month of Ramadan, killing civilians a majority of whom are women and children," Indian envoy Parvathaneni Harish said.
India also raised concerns about “trade and transit terrorism” and stressed that the vulnerabilities of landlocked countries should not be weaponized. "Only coordinated efforts of international community would ensure that ISIL/Al-Qaeda and their affiliates including Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed and proxies such as The Resistance Front, along with those who facilitate their operations, no longer indulge in cross-border terrorism," Harish added.
China’s representative to the United Nations expressed concern at the Security Council over the recent clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan along the hypothetical Durand Line and called on both sides to exercise restraint. China’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Fu Cong, told the Security Council meeting on Afghanistan that Beijing is eager to play a constructive role in resolving tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan. The Chinese envoy also urged the Islamic Emirate to investigate the attack on a Chinese hotel in Kabul and hold the perpetrators accountable.
