India has officially presented its proposal to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, marking the centenary edition of the global sporting event. The bid was placed before the Evaluation Committee of Commonwealth Sport in London on Tuesday.The Indian delegation was led by Gujarat’s Minister of Sports, Harsh Sanghavi, and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president P.T. Usha. Senior officials from the Centre, the Gujarat government, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, and the Commonwealth Games Association of India (CGAI) were also part of the team.
According to information,the proposal highlights Ahmedabad’s compact Games footprint, supported by international-standard venues, modern transport systems, and world-class accommodation. It stresses alignment with the Games Reset principles, giving priority to affordability, inclusivity, flexibility, and sustainability. Commitments include integrating para-sports, promoting gender equity, protecting human rights, and embedding a long-term legacy that extends benefits beyond the Games.“This will be a proud milestone, not just for Gujarat but for India. Hosting the Centenary Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad can inspire youth, accelerate our journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047, and strengthen the Commonwealth Movement for the next 100 years,” said Minister Harsh Sanghavi.Echoing this sentiment, IOA president P.T. Usha said: “India’s bid is not just about capability, but about values. Ahmedabad is ready to take the baton from Glasgow 2026, honouring the past while shaping the future of Commonwealth Sport.”
The Gujarat government underscored Ahmedabad’s strong track record as a host city. The city has successfully organised the ICC Cricket World Cup, the National Games 2022, and Indian Premier League matches. It is also set to host upcoming events including the Asian Aquatics 2025, Asian Weightlifting Championships 2026, and the World Police and Fire Games 2029, enhancing its credentials as a global sporting hub.With coordinated support from the Government of India, the Gujarat government, and the CGAI, India’s bid projects an ambition to deliver Games that are sustainable, inclusive, and globally impactful, befitting the centenary celebration of the Commonwealth Sport Movement.
