India passes BRICS Baton to China, PM Modi seeks action on Declaration

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called on BRICS member and partner countries to turn the outcomes of the 18th BRICS Summit into time-bound action and ensure tangible results on the ground.
Addressing the closing session on ‘Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability’ in New Delhi, Modi said the frameworks and decisions agreed upon at the summit must move beyond documentation and create a real impact.“We must translate all outcomes into time-bound actions that deliver last-mile impact,” Modi said, stressing the need for coordinated efforts to ensure that the grouping’s framework leads to concrete results.
Reflecting on the two-day summit, the Prime Minister said the ideas and suggestions shared by participating leaders had added both breadth and depth to cooperation within BRICS. He said their presence demonstrated the grouping’s growing relevance, openness and inclusiveness.Modi said the discussions had strengthened the belief that BRICS was not merely a grouping of countries but an “ecosystem of solutions”.
PM Modi Hopes New Delhi Declaration Gives Clear Direction
The Prime Minister expressed hope that the ‘New Delhi Declaration’ adopted at the summit would reflect the shared vision of BRICS members and provide a clear direction for future cooperation.“We hope that the ‘New Delhi Declaration’ adopted at this summit will serve as a reflection of our shared vision,” Modi said.He reiterated that the summit’s outcomes should not remain limited to documents and frameworks but should translate into concrete initiatives and last-mile impact.

India Hands Over BRICS Chairship to China
The 18th BRICS Summit concluded in New Delhi with India handing over the BRICS chairship to China, which will take over as the grouping’s next chair.The handover marked the conclusion of India’s 2026 BRICS chairship, during which New Delhi hosted the annual summit and focused discussions on resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability.

At the conclusion of the summit, Modi thanked the participating leaders for their contributions and said their presence had reinforced the growing relevance, openness and inclusiveness of BRICS.
