India,Oman Free Trade Agreement likely to Be announced soon

The conclusion and signing of the proposed free trade agreement between India and Oman is expected to be announced soon, a senior official reportedly stated, signalling the final stages of negotiations on the long-anticipated deal.
According to information, the text of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) is currently being translated into Arabic in Oman. Once the translation is complete, the cabinets of both countries will formally approve the pact.“Both countries have, in principle, decided to announce the conclusion and signing together,” the official noted, adding that the process would take “much less” than two to three months.
Talks on the CEPA began in November 2023, with both sides working to expedite the process. Such agreements aim to significantly reduce or eliminate customs duties on most goods traded between the two partners, while also easing regulations to promote services trade and attract investment.Oman is India’s third-largest export destination among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, following the UAE and Saudi Arabia. India already has a similar agreement with the UAE, which came into effect in May 2022.
Bilateral trade between India and Oman reached over $10 billion in 2024–25, comprising $4.06 billion in exports from India and $6.55 billion in imports. India’s key imports from Oman include petroleum products and urea, which together account for more than 70% of total imports. Other major imports include propylene and ethylene polymers, petroleum coke, gypsum, chemicals, and iron and steel.Trade experts believe that the CEPA will further strengthen economic ties by improving market access, boosting investment flows, and enhancing supply chain linkages between the two nations.
