Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said India and Norway have upgraded their bilateral relationship to a “Green Strategic Partnership” following talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in Oslo.
In a post on X, PM Modi shared that the new partnership would strengthen cooperation in clean energy, sustainable growth, the blue economy, green shipping and several other sectors.“I had fruitful conversations with Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in Oslo. One of the most important highlights was the upgrading of our bilateral partnership to a Green Strategic Partnership, which will strengthen cooperation in clean energy, sustainable growth, the blue economy, green shipping, and several other areas,” PM Modi said.
PM added that both countries also explored ways to deepen collaboration in innovation, research, education, health services and skills development.PM Modi also welcomed Norway’s decision to join the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative, describing it as a significant step towards strengthening maritime cooperation.“It is gratifying to see Norway join the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative,” he said.

According to information.India and Norway on Monday marked a major expansion in bilateral engagement with the signing of 12 agreements and initiatives during PM Modi’s official visit to the Nordic nation, aimed at boosting cooperation in climate action, technology, maritime affairs and scientific research.The two countries agreed to elevate ties to a Green Strategic Partnership, reflecting their shared focus on sustainable development, clean energy transition and green industrial growth.According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the Joint Statement adopted by both sides emphasised climate action, circular economy initiatives and the integration of Norwegian technological expertise with India’s manufacturing scale and capabilities.Among the key outcomes of the visit, Norway formally joined the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative, reinforcing cooperation on maritime security and support for a free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
According to information, India will also participate in the Nor-Shipping 2027 with a dedicated India Pavilion to enhance collaboration in shipbuilding, green shipping technologies and modern port infrastructure.In the space sector, both countries signed an agreement on the peaceful exploration and use of outer space, paving the way for stronger cooperation between their space agencies and greater investment opportunities in the sector.Another major outcome was the launch of the India-Norway Digital Development Partnership, which aims to promote collaboration on digital public infrastructure, digital public goods and open digital ecosystems. The initiative is expected to support India’s Digital India mission and DPI-led transformation initiatives in countries of the Global South in partnership with Norway.PM Modi’s Norway visit is part of his ongoing five-nation tour. Norway is the fourth stop on the tour after visits to the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands and Sweden.
