Highlighting the global context, Jaishankar noted that the India-Africa partnership assumes added significance at a time of complex geopolitical and geoeconomic challenges. “It will be a message of stability in a turbulent world, of reliability in an uncertain one, and of solidarity in difficult times,” he said. The minister asserted that India and Africa are not just development partners but also “partners in shaping a better world,” underlining the importance of collective efforts amid ongoing global conflicts, including tensions in West Asia.
The logo for the summit features a lion superimposed on interlocked maps of India and Africa, symbolising strength and unity. The theme, ‘Enduring Partnership, Shared Vision’, reflects the shared aspirations of both regions.Jaishankar described the upcoming summit as a “unique opportunity” to deepen engagement and shape a more ambitious, inclusive and future-oriented phase of cooperation.
He also highlighted India’s expanding diplomatic presence in Africa, noting that New Delhi has opened 17 new missions in recent years, taking the total number of Indian missions on the continent to 46. Africa, he said, now occupies a “central place” in India’s foreign policy, guided by principles of equality, mutual respect and shared progress.Tracing the historical roots of the relationship, Jaishankar said India-Africa ties are anchored in civilisational linkages built over centuries through cultural exchanges and human interaction. These bonds were further strengthened during the anti-colonial struggles, with India standing in solidarity with African nations.“Our shared history of struggle, resilience and aspirations continues to shape our partnership,” he said.
The minister also pointed out that India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision aligns with Africa’s Agenda 2063, creating complementary roadmaps for sustainable growth and inclusive development. He noted that cooperation between India and Africa has expanded across multiple pillars, supported by high-level political engagement and India’s consistent backing for Africa’s rightful place in global governance. A key milestone, he said, was the inclusion of the African Union in the G20 during India’s presidency in 2023, reflecting a broader push to amplify the voice of the Global South.Jaishankar added that development cooperation and capacity-building programmes remain at the core of the partnership, alongside growing defence, security and maritime collaboration. These efforts are guided by India’s MAHASAGAR vision, aimed at ensuring stability in the Indian Ocean Region and promoting safer sea lanes.
