68 th Kannada Rajyotsava, also known as Karnataka Formation Day or Karnataka Day, is celebrated on Wednesday through out the State by hoisting yellow and red Kannada flags and arranging cultural programs.

On the occasion, Siddaramaiah declared that free electric and water will be supplied to all government schools with immediate effect. It is celebrated every year annually on November 1. This significant day marks the merger of Kannada-speaking regions in Southwestern India in 1956 to create the state of Karnataka. Coinciding with the formation of several other states like Haryana, Kerala, and Punjab, it holds immense importance for the people of Karnataka, who celebrate it in various ways.

Governor Thaverchand and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah were Chief guests at a cultural extravaganza by children at Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.

The Karnataka government's Rajyotsava Award will be conferred this year upon 68 persons, including ISRO Chairman S Somanath, for their meritorious service in their fields.The award, considered to be the second highest civilian award given by the state government annually.
