Imran Khan alleges ISI conducting his military trial in jail

Pakistan's jailed former prime minister Imran Khan on Wednesday alleged that he is facing a military trial in jail as it's not being conducted by a civilian judge but by an ISI officer, who takes instructions directly from Army Chief Asim Munir. The 72-year-old former cricketer-turned-politician has been in jail for over two years in multiple cases. He is currently lodged in the Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi. “My so-called trial in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, is not being conducted by a judge but by an ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence) Colonel, who takes instructions directly from Army Chief Gen Asim Munir. This is a military trial, not a civilian one,” Khan said in a post on X. Khan accused the authorities of running affairs under what he termed “Asim Law”, claiming the Constitution and legal system are in disarray. He stated that over 300 fabricated charges have been filed against him. His comments came a day after the Federal Investigation Agency's Cyber Crimes Wing launched an inquiry into the management of Khan's social media account for allegedly promoting an "anti-state narrative."

Meanwhile,Imran Khan has been directed to appear via video link from Adiala Jail for the next hearing, as the anti-terrorism court (ATC) adjourned the General Headquarters (GHQ) attack case to October 1. The development came after the Punjab government formally withdrew its notification for holding a jail trial in the case. Presided over by ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah, the court issued summons for three witnesses to appear at the next hearing and instructed that challan copies be distributed in 11 other May 9 cases the same day. Former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi will also attend via video link from Lahore jail.An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in December 2024 indicted former prime minister Imran Khan and other PTI leaders in connection with the May 9, 2023, attack on the General Headquarters (GHQ).
