The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Sunday inaugurated and laid the foundation stonesfor public development works worth Rs 1,507 crore in the presence of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.According to AMC, 28 projects worth ₹525 crore were inaugurated, while foundation stones were laid for 30 new projects amounting to ₹982 crore, marking a significant expansion of civic infrastructure across the city.A key highlight of the event was the draw for 465 affordable housing units under the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana and 1,573 units under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Beneficiaries were handed symbolic keys by the Union Home Minister. Shah also performed the ground-breaking for a new mini sports complex at Devnagar and distributed appointment letters to 102 newly recruited Assistant Firemen of the AMC.
Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah said Ahmedabad is rapidly preparing to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with long-term planning underway to gear up for the 2036 Olympics. He highlighted the city’s expanding sports infrastructure—from international-standard stadiums to community sports hubs under flyovers—describing it as a vital catalyst in nurturing young athletes.Shah noted that Gujarat’s sports ecosystem, initiated by then Chief Minister Narendra Modi through the Khel Mahakumbh, has evolved into the nationwide Khelo India movement, strengthening physical and mental fitness across the youth population. He said the world’s largest cricket stadium, the upcoming Sardar Patel Sports Enclave, and multiple associated projects will place Ahmedabad firmly on the global sports map.He further highlighted Gujarat’s major infrastructure milestones, including the world’s largest renewable energy park, the Dholera greenfield smart city, the Surat–Chennai economic corridor, the Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train, and GIFT City, India’s first financial tech hub.
Speaking on national progress, Shah said India’s global standing has strengthened under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with visible improvements in national security, infrastructure, agriculture, irrigation, and economic growth. Referring to the Ayodhya Ram Temple, he said the 2019 bhoomi pujan, the 2024 pran pratishtha, and the upcoming 2025 flag hoisting represent a historic milestone under the Prime Minister’s leadership.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said Amit Shah has consistently driven development efforts in the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency, with projects worth ₹22,551 crore executed in recent years. He reiterated that Ahmedabad is on track to become India’s sports capital, with the 2030 Commonwealth Games expected to significantly accelerate the city’s infrastructure expansion and global profile.Patel noted major improvements in Ahmedabad’s core urban services—roads, water supply, drainage, and stormwater systems—along with upgrades to public amenities such as parks, libraries, and sports complexes. He added that over 13 lakh houses have been built in Gujarat under PMAY-Urban. The city’s green initiatives, including the plantation of 28 lakh trees, development of Miyawaki forests, lake rejuvenations, and creation of oxygen parks, were highlighted as key steps towards a sustainable urban ecosystem.As part of the day’s programme, Shah inaugurated several major civic assets across the city, including 881 EWS houses at Thaltej (Tulsi Residency), the Electrotherm Garden in South Bopal, the redeveloped Narsinh Mehta Lake at Vastrapur, Shri Kshetra Sarovar at Sarkhej, the Narayanrao Bhandari Open Party Plot at Memnagar, and 350 rehabilitation houses at New Wadaj–Natna Chapra. He also visited the sports activity centre near the Ranip Railway Overbridge and the gymnasium and library at New Ranip.
