The Southwest Monsoon arrived in Mumbai with heavy downpour.Mumbai’s Colaba and Santacruz recorded 65.4 mm and 50.4 mm of rainfall from last evening to Wednesday morning.South Mumbai has witnessed heavy rainfall. Waterlogging is being reported from low lying areas of Sion, Hindmata, Santacruz and Andheri.Neighbouring Thane, Palghar and Raigad districts are also witnessing spells of heavy rains.Local train services between Kurla and CSMT were halted.
Rainfall also caused low visibility on eastern freeway. Mumbai police issued an advisory for commuters to avoid some areas due to water logging. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) the southwest monsoon arrived several parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, ahead of its normal arrival date of June 10. Central Railway suspended its main line services and harbour line services due to waterlogging between Sion- and Kurla stations. However Western Railway service was not affected.Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar visited Disaster Management Control Room and took stock of the situation.
