Heavy rain lashes MP, Army deployed in Shivpuri relief

Heavy rains have triggered a flood-like situation across several districts of Madhya Pradesh, with Shivpuri being among the worst affected. Authorities were forced to call in the Army on Tuesday night after rising water levels left many people, including school children, stranded. As of Wednesday, more than 250 people were rescued in the Kolaras assembly constituency, while over 100 remained trapped,according to information.In Shivpuri’s Pachavali village, about 30 school children were stuck for more than 24 hours. Kolaras SDM Anoop Srivastava confirmed that the Army was evacuating stranded villagers and distributing food and essential supplies. Army Major Shivam Ganguly, leading the operation, said two Army teams and a medical unit had been deployed.
In neighbouring Guna district,torrential rainfall damaged the Kalora dam in the  in the tribal-dominated Bamori development block  residents of eight villages have been advised to move to safer places..Guna Collector Kishore Kanyal said that due to the damage caused to the Kalora dam of Bamori, people from Singapore, Tumda, Kudka, Bandha, Umradha, and Baniyani villages have been advised to shift to safer location A bridge collapse in Bamori also disrupted road connectivity to Rajasthan.The India Meteorological Department has forecast 8 to 9 inches of rainfall in the next 24 hours for several districts, including Bhopal, Vidisha, Narmadapuram, Raisen, Sehore, Ashoknagar, Guna, Shivpuri and Rajgarh. Relief and rescue efforts have been intensified across these areas.Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who reviewed the situation from the Home Guard headquarters, issued instructions to district collectors to ensure no negligence in rescue operations. He said all possible assistance would be provided to the affected areas.

Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia also held a late-night video conference with collectors of Guna, Shivpuri, and Ashoknagar districts. He directed immediate provision of food, drinking water, medical aid, and security to the affected population. He reiterated that boats, helicopters, and all available resources should be deployed wherever needed.“No laxity or delay in relief and rescue operations will be accepted,” Scindia said in a post on X, adding that all departments must work in close coordination. 

He assured that both the Centre and the state government were committed to ensuring the smooth conduct of relief operations.
