In a significant step toward improving road safety and easing traffic congestion across Gujarat, the State Traffic Branch has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MapmyIndia (Mappls), India’s leading indigenous digital mapping and navigation platform. The collaboration aims to bring real-time traffic intelligence directly to commuters through enhanced navigation features. The initiative follows the directions of Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, who also holds the Home portfolio. During a recent review meeting under the ‘Har Ghar Swadeshi, Ghar Ghar Swadeshi’ campaign, Sanghavi urged departments to adopt indigenous technologies to strengthen public services. Acting on this, Director General of Police Vikas Sahay and the State Traffic Branch formalised the agreement with Mappls to integrate live traffic data into the app.
As part of the partnership, Mappls has rolled out new citizen-centric features. Users will now receive real-time traffic advisories, including updates on black spots, accident-prone zones, speed limits, and emerging obstructions—alongside regular navigation. Key information on accident hotspots provided by the State Traffic Branch has already been fed into the app to help drivers anticipate risk zones and stay alert. Speed limit data has also been updated to curb overspeeding, especially on stretches with low visibility.
Under the MoU, Gujarat Police will share daily live updates with MapmyIndia on road closures, construction work, traffic diversions, planned events, and public rallies. These alerts will be instantly reflected in the Mappls app, enabling commuters to choose alternate routes and avoid delays. To streamline this data flow, police personnel across districts have been trained and added to dedicated WhatsApp groups created specifically for real-time traffic reporting.Officials confirmed that the process of updating live inputs has already begun, and both Gujarat Police and MapmyIndia are working together to further improve the accuracy and frequency of traffic updates. The goal is to make travel safer, quicker, and more convenient for road users across the state.Appealing to citizens, Gujarat Police urged the public to download and use the Mappls app to stay informed about traffic conditions and contribute to smoother movement on Gujarat’s roads.
