Petrol and diesel prices were increased again across major metropolitan cities on Saturday, marking the third hike in less than 10 days as global crude oil prices remained elevated amid rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
According to information,in Delhi, petrol prices rose by 87 paise to Rs 99.51 per litre, inching closer to the Rs 100 mark, while diesel prices increased by 91 paise to Rs 92.49 per litre.Mumbai witnessed a 90 paise increase in petrol prices, taking the retail price to Rs 108.49 per litre. Diesel prices in the financial capital climbed by 94 paise to Rs 95.02 per litre.
In Kolkata, petrol prices increased by 94 paise to Rs 110.64 per litre, while diesel prices rose by 95 paise to Rs 97.02 per litre.
Chennai also recorded fresh fuel price hikes, with petrol becoming costlier by 82 paise at Rs 105.31 per litre and diesel rising by 87 paise to Rs 96.98 per litre.
The latest revision follows a similar increase earlier this week. On Tuesday, petrol prices in Delhi had risen from Rs 97.77 to Rs 98.64 per litre, while diesel prices increased from Rs 90.67 to Rs 91.58 per litre.Fuel prices in Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai had also recorded sharp increases during the earlier revision. In Jaipur, petrol prices had climbed to Rs 108.91 per litre, while diesel reached Rs 94.15 per litre after the previous hike.
Earlier on May 15, the Central government had raised petrol and diesel prices by Rs 3 per litre across the country.The repeated increase in fuel prices comes amid concerns over global oil supply disruptions linked to escalating tensions in West Asia and uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes.
According to agency reports,brent crude prices have remained elevated amid the ongoing conflict involving the US, Israel and Iran, with crude oil reportedly trading above USD 100 per barrel.
