Former Pak minister seeks FIR against ex-wife over AI images

A social media romance followed by a marriage ended in shock, divorce and a police complaint. All this happend in Pakistan where Former Sindh minister Ghulam Rasool Unnar has filed a petition before a sessions court in Karachi seeking registration of an FIR against his ex-wife Razia Arbab under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). During a hearing of the case on Thursday, Unnar's lawyer Shahid Unnar told the court that his client had interacted with Arbab through social media and she later proposed marriage to him. Unnar alleged that a woman used AI-generated images to conceal her identity before their marriage and later blackmailed and threatened him.
According to the lawyer, the former minister married the woman through a video call on Feb 23, 2026. Whenever the applicant asked the woman to show her face, she had shared images generated using AI, the lawyer said. He added that the woman was also wearing a veil on the day of the marriage.
After the marriage, the applicant saw the woman in person and was shocked to find that she looked completely different from the images, the lawyer said. The applicant distanced himself from the woman after seeing her actual face, although the marriage remained intact, he added. The woman later posted false images and posts on social media suggesting that the applicant had died. The applicant subsequently divorced the woman on Aug 2, the lawyer said. After the divorce, the woman allegedly demanded millions of rupees from the applicant and threatened to blackmail and kill him, according to the application. The court issued notices to the SP of the Complaints Cell and the SHO of Defence and sought a report by Aug 17.
