Former Karnataka DGP Om Prakash found dead at Bengaluru home

In Karnataka, former Director General of Police, Om Prakash, was found dead at his residence in Bengaluru on Sunday under mysterious circumstances, police said. The body, found with injuries, was discovered in his house, raising suspicions of foul play. Prakash's spouse, Pallavi, informed police about the incident, they said. Police Commissioner B Dayananda confirmed the death of Prakash. He was found in a pool of blood around 5.30pm. Senior police officials rushed to the spot immediately upon receiving the information. A 1981 batch IPS officer, served as Karnataka state's DGP and IGP from 2015 until he retired after almost two years.
Prakash, a native of Bihar, began his career as an additional superintendent of police in Harapanahalli, then Ballari district, and later served in various places, including SP Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada, and Chikkamagaluru. He also worked at Lokayukta and as DIG in the Fire and Emergency Services and Criminal Investigation Department (CID). According to preliminary information, Om Prakash's wife is an accused in the alleged murder. Om Prakash's body was taken to the hospital for a post-mortem examination. Injuries were discovered on Prakash's body, raising suspicious that he had been murdered. Police also suspect the involvement of a close family member in the former DGP's death. Police have begun questioning Prakash's wife and daughter regarding his death. The retired DGP had previously expressed concerns about threats to his life to some close associates, reported PTI.
