The Punjab government has acceded the agitating farmers' demand and have approved a higher state agreed price (SAP) for sugarcane crop. The decision was taken after Singh held a meeting with the farmer leaders. State party chief Navjot Singh Sidhu on Monday criticised the Punjab government for less sugarcane price. He gurther said that even Haryana, UP and Uttarakhand governments are paying more. Chief minister Captain Amrinder Singh in his tewwt on Tuesday informed about the hike in Sugarcane price.

Earlier, the state's agriculture department proposed a hike of upto Rs 345 per quintal, which the farmer leaders rejected. The farmers have also asked the state government to clear payment of arrears to the tune of Rs 200-250 crore. The agitation led to disruption of traffic on roads and train tracks. At least 368 trains have been affected so far - 40 of them on Tuesday which had to be cancelled, short terminated or diverted.
Later, Raveen Thukral, Media Advisor to the CM, in his tweet informed that elated Punjab farmers union leaders, including Balbir Singh Rajjewal, offer sweets to CM and announce withdrawal of their agitation after he okayed sugarcane SAP hike to Rs 360/quintal.
