One of the prominent survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse, Virginia Giuffre, died by suicide aged 41 in Western Australia, her family said. Giuffre was among the most vocal accusers of convicted sex offenders Jeffrey Epstein and his former partner, Ghislaine Maxwell. She had claimed they trafficked her to Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, when she was 17, an allegation he has strongly refused. Internet users have demanded justice and said her "courage will not be forgotten". Giuffre, 41, died on Friday in Western Australia state, where she had been living for several years, the family said in an emailed statement. “Virginia was a fierce warrior in the fight against sexual abuse and sex trafficking. She was the light that lifted so many survivors,” the family statement said. “Despite all the adversity she faced in her life, she shone so bright. She will be missed beyond measure.” She had been a "fierce warrior in the fight against sexual abuse", and that the “toll of abuse... became unbearable. She lost her life to suicide, after being a lifelong victim of sexual abuse and sex trafficking," the statement said. She was hit by a bus four days ago.

Virginia Giuffre endured a difficult life from a young age. She was raised in Florida. A family friend sexually abused her, which led her to live on the streets as a teenager. During this vulnerable period, Giuffre encountered Ghislaine Maxwell, who allegedly groomed her to be sexually abused by Jeffrey Epstein between 1999 and 2002. Giuffre later accused Epstein of trafficking her to powerful men, including Prince Andrew and modeling agent Jean-Luc Brunel.Epstein, the financier at the center of the abuse scandal, died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. Maxwell was convicted in 2021 for her role in recruiting underage girls for Epstein and was sentenced to prison. Giuffre shifted to Australia with her husband and children prior to Epstein’s arrest. Maxwell is serving a 20-year sentence at a prison in Florida.
Epstein committed suicide a few weeks later while imprisoned in New York’s Metropolitan Correctional Center. Epstein’s death has ignited controversy for years, with some alleging he was murdered in jail to cover up the exposure of the rich and powerful clients who allegedly were involved in trysts with some 250 underage girls on his island. In 2024, a group of victims filed a lawsuit accusing the FBI of covering up its failure to investigate Epstein. The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has vowed to release all documents related to the charges against Epstein, including lists of high-profile people associated with him. In February the “first phase” of documents was released but contained no bombshells.
