KPCC President DK Shivakumar was elected as the leader of the Congress Legislative Party at a Vidhana Soudha meeting in Bengaluru on Saturday. His name was proposed during the meeting and received unanimous support from party legislators and senior leaders.

Shivakumar will take oath as the next chief minister of Karnataka on June 3, said Congress state unit working president G C Chandrashekhar. "The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Glass House in Lok Bhavan," he pointed out. Siddaramaiah's resignation as Chief Minister was accepted and the Council of Ministers was dissolved by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Friday.
