In UP, thousands of devotees converged at the sacred Triveni Sangam on Wednesday in Prayagraj, marking Chaitra Purnima with ritualistic dips and prayers amid a deeply spiritual atmosphere.Since early morning, a continuous stream of pilgrims has been arriving at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati Rivers, braving unfavourable weather conditions to perform rituals and seek divine blessings. Many were seen performing religious rituals, offering prayers, and participating in charitable activities along the riverbanks.
According to Hindu beliefs, taking a holy dip on Chaitra Purnima is considered highly auspicious and is believed to cleanse sins while bringing peace, prosperity, and happiness. Devotees also engaged in acts of charity, including distributing food, clothes, and essentials to the underprivileged.“Today is Chaitra Purnima, and bathing in the Ganga holds great significance. I prayed for peace and well-being for all,” a devotee said.Another pilgrim shared that taking a dip at the Sangam on this day is believed to fulfill wishes and bring positive outcomes in life.

The occasion is dedicated to the worship of Lord Vishnu, with many observing the Satyanarayan Vrat and conducting special pujas at homes and temples. Rituals such as Satyanarayan Katha and distribution of prasad are widely performed.This year, the Purnima tithi began at 7:06 a.m. on April 1 and will conclude at 7:41 a.m. on April 2. With the full moon visible on April 1, devotees are observing and completing the fast on the same day. Offering arghya to the Sun and later to the Moon is considered an essential part of the rituals.For those unable to visit pilgrimage sites, religious customs suggest symbolic purification by adding a few drops of Gangajal to bathwater at home, along with acts of charity.The ghats of Prayagraj resonated with devotional chants and prayers throughout the day, as thousands of devotees came together to celebrate the sacred festival with faith and devotion.
