Deadly 'bomb cyclone' slams California

In USA, at least one person was killed as a wet and windy Bomb storm arrived in California on Tuesday, delivering more rain, snow and hazards to residents of the Golden State on the second day of spring.  knocking down power lines and leaving at least 150,000 people without electricity. Flights at San Francisco International Airport were grounded. The National Weather Service has issued high wind warnings from San Francisco to San Diego, as well as inland areas, including Palmdale, Lancaster and the Antelope Valley.Heavy rain is likely to lead to rapid runoff and areas of flooding as the storm moves south Tuesday. Heavy snow will pose hazards in the mountains of Southern California as well as the central and southern Sierra Nevada, where up to 4 feet could accumulate at higher elevations.

“This was a violent, sudden windstorm. We’re seeing impacts probably that are similar to a strong tropical storm or a weak hurricane," Daniel Swain, a climate scientist at the University of California at Los Angeles said. California has witnessed a series of storms since late December, bringing flooding rains and record snowfalls.
