Kerala, which has been witnessing a worrying surge in daily COVID-19 cases, has further extended the weekend lockdown from this week. Kerala is now contributing over 50 per cent of positive cases in the country over the last two days. Meanwhile, The Central Government is sending a six-member team to Kerala in view of the COVID-19 cases in the state. The team will be headed by Director of National Centre for Disease Control Sujeet Kumar Singh. In a tweet, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that as large number of COVID cases are still being reported in Kerala, the team will aid state’s ongoing efforts in COVID-19 management.

Average daily cases being reported in the state are above 17,443. The state has also reported a high case positivity of 12.93 per cent cumulatively and 11.97 per cent weekly, shows Health Ministry data, with six districts reporting more than 10 per cent weekly positivity rate.
