Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Tuesday inaugurated the Space Applications Regional Meet in Gandhinagar, emphasizing the need to leverage space-based technologies to enhance administrative efficiency and governance. The initiative reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of integrating advanced space technology for better public service delivery and development.
The meeting brought together representatives from Gujarat, Diu, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, along with ISRO scientists, policymakers, and industry leaders. Discussions focused on how satellite-based solutions can drive sustainable growth in agriculture, disaster management, and urban planning, aligning with the goals of Viksit Bharat 2047.
“Central and state ministries, departments, and institutions must maximize the use of space-derived inputs in planning, monitoring, and decision-making for development programs, disaster preparedness, and strategic initiatives,” the Chief Minister said in his address.
This regional workshop is part of a nationwide effort to promote space technology adoption under the Indian Space Policy 2023 and ongoing space sector reforms. The second National Conference on ‘Leveraging Space Technology for Viksit Bharat 2047’ will be held on August 22 in New Delhi, for which preparatory workshops are being organized at state and UT levels by ISRO and the Department of Space.The event was attended by Nilesh Desai, Director of the Space Applications Centre, Ahmedabad;Mona Khandhar, Principal Secretary of the State Science and Technology Department; ISRO scientists, and senior officials from state departments.
