A massive Unity March was organised in Ahmedabad on Monday to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel leading the 3.5-km procession in the Ambli–Bopal area. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said the country is celebrating Sardar Patel’s 150th birth anniversary on a grand scale under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He highlighted that assembly-wise Unity Marches are being held across Gujarat to take Sardar Patel’s message of unity and the Prime Minister’s vision of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat to the masses. He added that the Statue of Unity—built during Prime Minister Modi’s tenure—stands as the most fitting tribute to the Iron Man of India. “This statue is a living symbol of India’s strength and glorious history. After independence, Sardar Saheb merged 562 princely states to create an undivided India. Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have strengthened national unity from Kutch to Cuttack and Kashmir to Kanyakumari by removing Article 370,” he said.
However, the march also led to significant traffic disruptions during office hours. Heavy congestion was reported below the Bopal overbridge and on the Vaishnodevi–Sardar Patel Ring Road stretch leading towards Bopal. A fire brigade vehicle was briefly stuck in traffic, and despite requests to clear the path, immediate action was not taken, resulting in chaotic conditions. Vehicles coming from Vaishnodevi were diverted, causing delays and inconvenience to commuters heading to work.
