CID notice to Abhishek over MLAs' complaint: CM, TMC expels 2 MLAs

In West Bengal politics a new controversy has cropped up related to aleeged forged signature of two MLAs.. The Trinamool Congress, on Monday, expelled two of its newly elected MLAs, Sandipan Saha and Ritabrata Banerjee, for allegedly being involved in anti-party activities. The expulsion order came immediately after Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said that the two expelled MLAs had filed complaints of signature forgery at a party letter that endorsed Sovondeb Chattopadhay as the Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari told media persons in Nabanna that these two MLAs had complained that signatures of TMC MLAs were forged to show support for the TMC Leader of Opposition and Chief Whip. Adhikari rejected allegations of political vendetta against the Trinamool Congress (TMC), asserting that the CID notice issued to TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee stemmed from complaints made by two legislators from his own party.

The Opposition party- TMC- wrote a letter to Speaker Rathindra Bose communicating its decision.Reacting to his expulsion, Sandipan Saha said, “The party supports those who do unethical things. And it expels those who do ethical things. We did not even know that a signature in an attendance register would be passed off as a signature on a proposal.” Bandyopadhyay was a CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP before joining the TMC.Incidentally, both Saha and Bandyopadhyay had asked the TMC leadership to expel Jahangir Khan after he withdrew his name from the Falta repoll without consulting the party leadership.

Sandipan Saha, who was elected from Entally assembly constituency, defeating BJP heavyweight Priyanka Tibrewal by a margin of more than 34,000 votes, skipped the recent meeting hosted at Mamata Banerjee’s home. Multiple claims were raised that signatures of some of the elected MLAs were forged on the paper without their consent.
Earlier, the investigative agency questioned TMC MLAs Kunal Ghosh and Nayna Bandyopadhyay in this regard. CID also issued a notice to the party’s national general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, on Saturday, summoning him to its headquarters. However, the Diamond Harbour MP skipped the summons, citing health adversities. According to agency reports, TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee has reportedly sought 15 days’ time from the CID for his appearance, citing illness. He was summoned in connection with an investigation into alleged forged signatures of party MLAs endorsing Shovon Deb Chattopadhyay as Leader of Opposition in the Assembly. According to sources, a formal letter requesting the extension has been sent to CID.
