China has instructed its carriers to halt the delivery of aircraft from American aerospace giant Boeing, a report stated on Tuesday. Beijing has ordered the immediate stoppage of any purchases related to aircraft machinery and equipment from US companies, reported Bloomberg. Amid the trade war, Boeing parts and aircraft will cost China nearly double, stated the report. US aircraft giant Boeing has been caught in the crossfire in the ongoing trade war between the world's two largest economies. This development comes two days after China's Commerce Ministry urged the US to "completely abolish" the 145% duty on Chinese imports. The blocking of Boeing deliveries may have significant implications for both the Chinese aviation sector and the US aerospace industry giant.
Since President Donald Trump came into office in January, the world's two largest economies have been engaged in a tit-for-tat trade war, with the US now levying tariffs of up to 145 per cent on Chinese imports. Beijing, too, responded to what they called illegal "bullying" by Washington and has slapped retaliatory taxes of 125 per cent on US imports, ruling out further increases as worthless. Beijing's reciprocal tariffs on US imports would likely have triggered significant rises in the cost of bringing in aircraft and components.
