UP to provide 20% reservation for Agniveers in police, PAC & Firemen

The Uttar Pradesh government has approved 20% reservation for former Agniveers in direct recruitment for the posts of police constables, Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), mounted police, and firemen. The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday to provide post-service employment opportunities to youth who have served under the Agnipath scheme. Giving details of the cabinet decisions, Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Suresh Khanna said in Lucknow that 20 per cent reservation will be provided in the state police and PAC for Agniveers who have retired from the armed forces. The state government said the move is intended to support the integration of ex-Agniveers into civil services after completing their four-year military service under the Agnipath scheme. It added that this step is part of Uttar Pradesh’s broader effort to honour the contribution of Agniveers to national defence.“This is an important decision. The reservation will apply across different categories—general, SC, ST, and OBC. If an Agniveer is from the SC category, the reservation will apply within SC; if from OBC, then within OBC," he explained, reported PTI. The Centre introduced the Agnipath scheme in 2022 to induct personnel for short terms in the Army, Navy, and Air Force, with the aim of reducing the age profile of the three services. The first batch of recruits under this system will come out in 2026.
UP minister Nand Gopal Gupta 'Nandi' stated that the Council of Ministers has approved the creation of a letter of comfort for establishing a new unit for the production of frozen ready-to-eat food items to be set up by Haldiram Snacks in Gautam Buddha Nagar.
